Faculty

Linda Eckert, MD — Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Adjunct Professor of Global Health at the University of Washington with an Infectious Disease Fellowship. Her areas of clinical expertise include infections in women, vaccines, vulvar disease, cervical cancer screening, and cross-cultural medicine. For 15 years, she served as a consultant to the World Health Organization for cervical cancer prevention, and currently serves on the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology Immunization, Infectious Disease, and Public Health Preparedness Work Group. She is the author of more than 90 peer-reviewed research articles appearing in journals including NEJM and JAMA. In 2024, she published: Enough: Because We Can Stop Cervical Cancer to address the cultural, gender, economic, and political challenges that are keeping us from ending this preventable cancer to call us to action.

Anna Powell, MD, MS — Assistant Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics with advanced training in infectious disease at Johns Hopkins Medicine. She has expertise in reproductive infectious disease and vulvovaginal disorders. Dr. Powell is the recipient of a prestigious Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) award. She is now funded through a Career Development Award (K23) from the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to study the vaginal microbiome and metabolites of preterm birth among women with and without HIV. Dr. Powell completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Drexel University College of Medicine-Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. She continued her specialization in reproductive infectious disease through a fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she also earned a master’s in clinical research.
