“Leadership is expected of physicians, yet it’s rarely taught during training. AMWA EVOLVE gave me the tools to motivate multidisciplinary teams, manage complex patients more effectively, and build stronger relationships with colleagues. I wholeheartedly recommend it to all trainees!”
We hold two sessions per month to allow participants to choose which date to attend that month based on their current schedule. Participants only need to attend once per month. These sessions are 90 minutes.

Each month, participants receive pre-work—such as articles or videos—to explore at their own pace. Then, we come together for a live, interactive Zoom session led by a leadership coach. Sessions are recorded, so you can revisit the content anytime or catch up if you miss a meeting.
Enrollees must be currently enrolled in a residency or fellowship program, or be medical school graduates who are in a gap year or planning to apply to residency.
While focused on advancing women physicians in training, the AMWA EVOLVE program is open to all genders.
The time commitment is about 3 hours per month: a 90-minute session by Zoom, a pre-work assignment (typically reading article(s), watching a video, or reflecting on prompts), and a brief post-module survey.
If you miss a session, there is a second date that month to try to attend. If you miss both dates for that month’s module, we publish the recordings at the end of the month for participants to view.
While there is no organized 1:1 mentoring incorporated in the program, AMWA has a physician coaching directory with 30+ certified coaches who can be a great resource for additional support. Many of these coaches have also been involved with the EVOLVE program in previous years. AMWA also has a Mentorship Program which can be a great resource for individual questions or concerns.
