On June 4, 2025, I had the distinct honor of delivering a keynote address at the conference celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Public Health Institute in Kosovo. As one of the oldest public health institutions in the Balkans, the Institute has played a pivotal role in advancing health and wellness in the region for a century. Many programs within the Institute address the health and wellness of women, including initiatives for HPV vaccination.
Representing New York Medical College and the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), I was proud to contribute to this historic occasion. Events like these not only honor the past but also strengthen global partnerships and reaffirm our shared mission in public health. It was a joy to reconnect with colleagues and to meet dedicated professionals from around the world who are equally committed to this work.
A particularly memorable moment was being introduced to His Excellency Prime Minister Albin Kurti, whose powerful remarks underscored the importance of unity and innovation in addressing the health challenges we face globally. You can view more here: https://lnkd.in/eAXFQbFa
While health systems may differ from country to country, the challenges are often strikingly similar. Opportunities for global dialogue like this remind us why our work in public health matters—why the health of nations is inseparable from the health of the world.
Among the many highlights of the event was a heartfelt performance by children centered on the theme of public health and the environment—a touching reminder of the next generation we’re working to protect. In a symbolic tribute to this milestone, a commemorative postage stamp was also unveiled.
This celebration was not just a reflection on 100 years of progress, but a call to action for the future of global health.
