The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) is once again partnering with the Global Initiative Against HPV and Cervical Cancer (GIAHC) to host the 7th Annual HPV Prevention Week (Jan 27-31, 2025) and Us vs. HPV Global Webinar Series. This weeklong event offers an invaluable opportunity to learn, collaborate, and take action to prevent HPV-related cancers like cervical, anal, and head & neck cancers.
“This year’s theme is: Turn up the HEAT on HPV through Health Equity, Advancement, & Technology reflects our commitment to advancing health equity, leveraging cutting-edge technology, and fostering global collaboration,” says Dr. Bisi Alli, Co-Chair of HPV Prevention Week. “We invite expert voices from all backgrounds to collaborate with us in amplifying awareness, empowering communities, and accelerating lasting impact.
A Preventable Health Crisis
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the leading cause of cervical cancer and contributes to other forms of cancer that affect millions globally. The good news? These cancers are preventable with vaccination, early detection, and education. HPV Prevention Week brings global experts together to spotlight the latest research and strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. “This is a crucial moment in the fight to eliminate the first cancer – cervical cancer,” says Dr. Shobha Krishnan, Co-Chair of HPV Prevention Week. “We have an opportunity to bridge gaps in health equity and ensure that every individual, regardless of their background, has access to this life-saving intervention.”
This year, AMWA is also calling on all members to reach out to their local official and encourage them to issue a proclamation in support of HPV Prevention Week.
