While the AMA was meeting, news broke that all 17 members of the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) were fired by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. The AMA passed an emergency resolution calling for a Senate investigation into the dismissal of the ACIP members as well as public advocacy and investment in evidence-based vaccine advisory structures.The AMA also aims to ensure that all health insurance plans rapidly include newly ACIP-recommended vaccines and to advocate for fair payment for healthcare professionals administering these vaccines.

Dr. Tiffani Bell Washington (Vice-Chair), Dr. Elisa Choi (Chair), and Dr. Nicole Plenty (Delegate) serve on the AMA Women Physicians Section Governing Council

Dr. Tiffani Bell Washington is AMWA’s Representative to AMA Physician Section.

Dr. Kim Templeton – Reference Committee D and AMA Mobility Caucus

Dr. Kim Templeton, who was a delegate from the AAOS to the AMA, was asked by the AMA  to chair Reference Committee D at the annual meeting.  This reference committee focuses on science and public health and addressed resolutions focused topics such as microplastics, artificial turf, alcohol policy, noise pollution, ultra-processed foods, surgical smoke, and the impacts of single vs multiuse surgical equipment.  The committee made significant recommendations to change the AMA policy on alcohol.  Dr. Templeon also assumed the role of chair of the AMA Mobility Caucus (MC). The MC focuses on issues that impact those with differing abilities.  Key members of this Caucus include the AAOS, AAPMR, ACR, other orthopaedic organizations, ophthalmology groups, urology, etc.

Dr. Theresa Rohr-Kirchgraber – Minority Affairs Section (MAS)

As part of the Minority Affairs Section (MAS), Dr. Theresa Rohr-Kirchgraber participated in the discussion on multiple resolutions. MAS has a name change to Underrepresented in Medicine Advocacy Section. Dr Rohr-Kirchgraber is also a member of AMPAC, the political action committee of the AMA.

Dr. Nancy Church – Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS)

Dr. Nancy Church, provided testimony to the Board of Trustees regarding future plans for the Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS).

AMA Presidential Inauguration

The AMA Presidential Inauguration Gala featured many guests in cultural attire. Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, MD, became the 180th president of the AMA president and the first president of Indian heritage. He shared his vision for healthcare as well as his perspective as a patient, having recently been diagnosed and undergoing treatment for a cancer

The AMA HOD Interim Meeting will be held November 14-18 2025 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, National Harbor, Maryland.
