We have exciting news to share: AMWA member Dr. Lyndsay Hoy has advanced to the final round of Philadelphia Magazine’s 2026 Be Well Philly Health Hero Challenge!
Earlier this summer, AMWA celebrated Dr. Hoy’s selection as one of 10 semifinalists from hundreds of nominations. Now, after a public vote, she is one of just three finalists competing to be named the 2026 Be Well Philly Health Hero.
And she needs our votes!
Dr. Hoy is a board-certified anesthesiologist whose commitment to women’s health is deeply personal. During her anesthesiology residency at the University of Pennsylvania in 2013, she was diagnosed with lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), a rare, progressive lung disease that predominantly affects women.
Today, Dr. Hoy serves as Vice Chair of Strategy and Mission for The LAM Foundation, helping advance patient-centered research, women’s health priorities, education, advocacy, and support for those living with LAM.
If Dr. Hoy is named the 2026 Health Hero, The LAM Foundation will receive a $15,000 donation to further its mission of improving the lives of people with LAM and accelerating progress toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. Her recognition will also help amplify and advance AMWA’s work in Women and Rare Disease, an important area of focus aimed at increasing awareness of the unique challenges women face in obtaining timely diagnosis, appropriate care, and support for rare conditions. In fact, AMWA is partnering with the LAM foundation on these important issues.
For AMWA, Dr. Hoy’s recognition is especially meaningful. Her work embodies the intersection of women physicians and women’s health that is central to AMWA’s mission. As both a physician and a patient advocate, she brings lived experience to her leadership and is helping ensure that the voices of women affected by rare disease inform research, clinical care, education, and advocacy. Her work also strengthens AMWA’s growing efforts to bring greater visibility to women living with rare diseases and to elevate their experiences within the medical community.
