This November, AMWA’s Premedical Division wrapped up an inspiring month of regional conferences across the country, each centered on empowering future women physicians and strengthening our community of aspiring healthcare leaders.

We kicked off with the AMWA Premedical Regions 5 and 7 Conference. Dr. Priya Shrestha, MD delivered an insightful physician keynote highlighting her journey in psychiatry and the importance of mental health during college. A panel of medical students from Tulane University School of Medicine and William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine offered candid reflections on their paths to medical school. Region Directors also shared opportunities within AMWA, including contributing to the Premedical Journal and navigating the premedical journey as future physicians and allied health professionals. The conference concluded with a presentation from the AMWA Sex and Gender Health Collaborative by Program Chair Iris, who introduced ways for premedical students to get involved. The event offered a welcoming space for attendees to deepen their understanding of the medical profession and expand their role within AMWA.

On November 15th, the Premedical and Medical Student Region 3 Directors joined forces to host their Regional Conference. “Beyond the White Coat: Redefining the Woman Physician.” Premedical and medical students, residents, and physicians came together to reflect on identity, purpose, intersectionality, and how to build fulfilling lives both in and outside of medicine. Through engaging keynotes, interactive workshops, and intentional networking spaces, attendees were encouraged to envision sustainable, values-driven futures as women in medicine.

Also on November 15th, AMWA’s Premedical Division hosted their Region 8 conference at the University of Houston. Attendees heard from a diverse lineup of specialists, including an orthopedic surgeon, ENT surgeon, neurologist, oncologist, and rheumatologist, who shared their unique experiences and advice for navigating medical training. The day also featured a research symposium and a professional development workshop, both of which gave students valuable tools for advancing their academic and professional journeys.

Across all 4 regions, this month’s conferences reflected AMWA’s ongoing commitment to mentorship, advocacy, and uplifting future women physicians. We are grateful to every speaker, organizer, and attendee who contributed to these meaningful events, and we look forward to continuing this momentum in the year ahead!
