The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) welcomes the continued national focus on advancing women’s health and recognizes the importance of addressing longstanding gaps in research, diagnosis, and treatment for conditions that uniquely or disproportionately affect women.
For generations, women’s health has been underserved by medical research and clinical practice. From cardiovascular disease and autoimmune disorders to endometriosis, infertility, maternal health, and menopause, women deserve rigorous scientific investigation, timely diagnoses, and access to evidence-based, high-quality care throughout every stage of life.
The executive order’s emphasis on strengthening research coordination and translating scientific discoveries into clinical practice presents an opportunity to accelerate progress. However, meaningful progress must be measured not only by new initiatives, but by tangible improvements in women’s health outcomes. This requires sustained federal investment in women’s health research, continued inclusion of women in clinical trials, rigorous attention to sex-based differences in disease, and equitable access to proven prevention strategies, treatments, and innovations.
As an organization representing women physicians and advocating for the health of women and their families, AMWA emphasizes that advancing women’s health requires a comprehensive, evidence-based approach that addresses the full spectrum of women’s health needs, including reproductive health, maternal health, cardiovascular health, mental health, and the unique challenges women face across the lifespan. Scientific independence, transparency, and collaboration among researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and patients are essential to ensuring that new policies translate into meaningful improvements in care.
AMWA stands ready to work with federal agencies, medical organizations, researchers, and policymakers to advance policies that strengthen the evidence base, address persistent health disparities, and ensure that every woman benefits from medical progress.
Women’s health is essential to the health of our nation. The measure of our commitment must be a future in which every woman’s health needs are understood, researched, and met with the highest standard of evidence-based care.
