In 2023, AMWA, in partnership with Global CSR Foundation launched the Climate Change Bucket campaign, thanks to the generosity of KuCoin. This campaign, as part of the American Women’s Hospitals global health work, consisted of delivering Climate Change Bucket kits to underserved areas. Components of the kit included a bucket for carrying and storing clean water (doubling as a stool), a waterproof safety mat that can also be used as a blanket, skirt, or protection for menses and incontinence, thermometer to monitor for early illness, Soap to prevent infections, and Earth Hug Pillow to provide comfort.
During the early part of 2024, the Climate Change Bucket kits were manufactured and prepared and shipped to the Bahamas and to St. Jude’s Hospital for distribution to the global sites that they support.
The official handover ceremony for the climate change bucket project was held on September 17th in Nassau Bahamas under the auspices of the office of the First Lady of the Bahamas HE Madam Ann Davis. AMWA Global Health Lead, Dr. Padmini Murthy represented AMWA in the formalities, along with Jing Cesarone, CEO of Global CSR Foundation. The event was well attended by ministers, government officials, press, and the public and was broadcast on national television.
This project highlights United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 – Good Health and Well-being and SDG 17- Strengthen the Means of Implementation and Revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development. The project illustrates the power of partnerships between the private sector and public sectors as well as governments in working together towards improving health.
“The climate crisis is an ongoing global public health challenge and needs to be addressed now,” said Dr. Padmini Murthy. “AMWA was honored to partner with Global CSR Foundation on this campaign and present the Climate Change Buckets to the First Lady of the Bahamas.”
