Transforming Healthcare: Celebrating Women in Medicine (Annual Women in Medicine Lectureship)
September 24 2026 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Join us for our annual Women in Medicine Lectureship, a partnership between the American Medical Women’s Association and the Women in Medicine Legacy Foundation. This event is free and open to the public.
Wednesday, September 24 | 7:00 PM ET | Zoom
We’re honored to welcome two distinguished featured speakers.
Dr. Deb Houry served as Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Director for Program and Science at the CDC until August 2025, when she resigned in protest over the firing of Director Dr. Susan Monarez and political interference at the agency. A board-certified emergency physician and former Emory University faculty member, she has become a leading voice for keeping science independent and evidence-based.
Dr. Sandra Fryhofer is a board-certified internal medicine physician and president-elect of the American Medical Association. Active in the AMA for nearly three decades, she has long served as its liaison to the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. She is a past president of the American College of Physicians and maintains a full-time practice in Atlanta.
The two speakers will be interviewed by Dr. Vidhya Prakash of AMWA, an infectious diseases physician and Chief Medical Officer at SIU Medicine, where she founded the Alliance for Women in Medicine and Science. She currently serves as Secretary of AMWA.
Together, these leaders will explore the forces shaping the future of medicine, from the independence of scientific institutions to vaccine policy, health equity, and the role women continue to play in steering the profession forward.
The event is open to physicians, scientists, public health leaders, educators, students, and anyone committed to the integrity of science and a more equitable future in healthcare.
