AMWA’s AU/UGA Medical Partnership recently awarded our “Local Heroes Award” to Drs. Suzanne Lester and Srilakshmi Rebala. The award celebrates physicians who reach above and beyond to support AMWA’s mission of being the vision and voice of women in medicine.
We look for physicians whose dedication and enthusiasm supporting women in medicine as well as the health of the women and their families, is laudable. Dr. Lester is the medical director of the Community Population Health program for the medical school. A family medicine physician, she developed the Athens Free Mobile Clinic which provides health care to the underserved and is a training site for medical students in the first two years. Dr. Rebala, a nephrologist, is an active educator both for residents and medical students. In practice for over 25 years, her impact on the community has been impressive and she continues to increase her education by recently becoming board certified in Lifestyle Medicine.
