AMWA Past President Dr. Theresa Rohr-Kirchgraber has recently been featured in two national public education initiatives focused on physician advocacy, vaccine confidence, and the importance of trusted medical voices.
Helping the Public Understand the Real Risks of Respiratory Illness
Dr. Rohr-Kirchgraber recently participated in Champions for Vaccine Education, Equity and Progress (CVEEP)’s The Risks Are Real campaign, a national public awareness initiative designed to provide evidence-based information about respiratory illnesses and the important role vaccines play in preventing severe disease. The campaign features physicians and public health leaders discussing their firsthand experiences caring for patients and explaining why prevention remains one of the most effective tools in protecting vulnerable populations.
As a physician educator and longtime advocate for preventive medicine, Dr. Rohr-Kirchgraber brings a trusted clinical perspective to conversations that are increasingly important in an era of widespread health misinformation. Her participation reflects AMWA’s longstanding commitment to promoting science-based, patient-centered healthcare and empowering physicians to serve as credible voices in their communities.
Physician Advocacy Beyond the Exam Room
Dr. Rohr-Kirchgraber also recently appeared on the Medical Association of Atlanta Podcast, where she joined medical student Ruhi Patel for a thoughtful discussion about physician advocacy, leadership, and the responsibility physicians have to improve health beyond individual patient encounters.
During the conversation, Dr. Rohr-Kirchgraber reflects on her own leadership journey and discusses how advocacy is a natural extension of medical practice. Whether advancing women’s health, promoting equity, educating the public, or shaping health policy, she emphasizes that physicians have both the opportunity and the responsibility to help improve the systems that influence patient care.
The podcast also highlights the importance of mentoring future physician leaders and encouraging medical students and early-career physicians to recognize that advocacy can take many forms—from community education and public communication to organizational leadership and legislative engagement.
Throughout her career, Dr. Rohr-Kirchgraber has exemplified AMWA’s mission of advancing women in medicine, advocating for equitable healthcare, and improving the health of all people. Her willingness to engage with the public through educational campaigns, podcasts, and community outreach demonstrates the critical role physicians play in translating medical evidence into accessible, trustworthy information.
