The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) is pleased to introduce a new professional opportunity for physician members through a collaboration with MedVeritas, an international medical second opinion service.

Through this AMWA membership benefit, physicians can apply to become compensated second opinion consultants, sharing their clinical expertise with physicians seeking additional perspectives on complex medical cases.

Connecting Medical Expertise Across Borders

Access to specialized medical expertise can be challenging, particularly for patients facing complex diagnoses or difficult treatment decisions. Medical second opinions provide valuable insights that can help clarify diagnoses, evaluate treatment options, and support informed decision-making.

MedVeritas facilitates physician-to-physician consultations, connecting treating physicians with qualified specialists who can provide independent clinical assessments and recommendations.

A New Professional Opportunity for AMWA Members

Through this collaboration, AMWA is helping expand opportunities for its physician members to contribute their expertise to international healthcare while receiving compensation for their professional services.

This new membership benefit offers an opportunity to:

  • Receive compensation for your expertise: Earn professional consulting fees for completed second opinion reviews.
  • Expand your professional reach: Contribute clinical insights to cases beyond your own institution, practice, or geographic region.
  • Support better-informed patient care: Help treating physicians evaluate diagnoses, treatment strategies, and complex clinical decisions.
  • Participate in global medical collaboration: Connect with physicians internationally through a structured consultation process.
  • Enjoy professional flexibility: Explore consulting opportunities that complement your existing clinical and professional responsibilities.

How the Process Works

Interested AMWA physician members may apply to participate in the MedVeritas second opinion physician network.

MedVeritas independently vets each physician, reviewing professional qualifications, credentials, and relevant clinical expertise before approving participation.

Once approved, physicians may be matched with second opinion requests appropriate to their specialty and experience. Consulting physicians review relevant medical records and clinical information and provide an independent professional assessment.

The consultation follows a physician-to-physician model. The second opinion is provided to the requesting or treating physician, who retains responsibility for the patient’s clinical management. The consulting physician does not establish a direct treating relationship with the patient through this process.

Participating physicians receive compensation for their completed consultations in accordance with MedVeritas arrangements.

Advancing Women Physicians and Global Health

For more than a century, AMWA has championed the advancement of women in medicine and the improvement of healthcare. This collaboration creates another avenue for women physicians to contribute their knowledge and experience beyond traditional clinical settings.

By connecting AMWA members with opportunities to serve as second opinion consultants, the initiative recognizes the value of their medical expertise while helping extend access to specialized clinical perspectives across borders. It also reflects AMWA’s commitment to developing meaningful membership benefits that support professional growth, recognition, and  career opportunities for women physicians at different stages of their careers.

Put your expertise to work beyond borders. Join a network of physicians helping bring additional medical perspectives to patients and their treating physicians around the world.
