About the Film: In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, overturning Roe v. Wade, Victoria Rue and Martha Boesing, two friends with extensive theater history, living in a senior community in Northern California, felt the need to do something, so they solicited stories from other women about having abortions pre-Roe v. Wade. Many of those who responded had never told their stories before – to anyone. From these stories, Rue and Boesing created a play, “Voices from the Silenced,” a powerful docu-drama illuminating the realities countless women faced before Roe v. Wade and will now be facing again. AMWA partnered with Victoria and Martha and with the expertise and support of Luna Productions and others, a film was created, artfully capturing the urgency of the performance and the play’s insistent message.
