SUMMARY:Advancing Equity in NCDs for Women and People with Congenital Conditions
DESCRIPTION:The “unseen and undiagnosed” are at risk. We will examine the lack of awareness and explore solutions to close gaps in NCD diagnosis. \n\n\nWhile Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) pose a major global health challenge\, significant gaps exist in diagnosis\, particularly for women and those with congenital conditions. Many NCDs\, often termed “forgotten\,” are overlooked in national strategies. Additionally\, low public awareness delays critical interventions. This event aims to illuminate these invisible burdens faced by women and those with congenital conditions\, advocate for equitable diagnosis\, and explore innovative solutions for a more inclusive global NCD response. \nHosted in person at: Church Center of the United Nations\n777 United Nations Plaza New York\, NY 10017 \nRegister for the in-person event \nNOTE: Due to heightened security near the UN\, all participants will need to show printed proof of registration. \nOr \nCannot make it in person? SUMMARY:AMWA-MWIA Virtual Global Film Screening On-Demand
DESCRIPTION:AMWA-MWIA FILM SCREENING:\n1001 Cuts: A Documentary about Women Surgeons\nAvailable ON-DEMAND December 5 to 7\nSign up here to get access! \n\nBias in medicine is often invisible and made  real only when you hear the stories of those who live it every day. Together\, the American Medical Women’s Association and Medical Women’s International Association offer the opportunity to promote the documentary film\, 1001 Cuts\, as a way to draw attention to equity in healthcare.\nThis documentary sheds light on the difficult culture that persists for women physicians in the world of surgery. Through candid interviews\, 1001 Cuts amplifies the voices of women surgeons from diverse specialties and backgrounds. It not only exposes the pervasive inequities in surgical practice but also presents solutions—offering hope and inspiration to the next generation of women in medicine.\n“1001cuts is a call to action to build workplace cultures within medicine where talent\, hard-work\, and leadership are recognized\, says Dr. Sarah Temkin who created and produced the film. The film is also an educational tool aimed at improving the culture for women in medicine and in other sectors.\nWith women physicians consistently demonstrating strong outcomes in communication\, preventive care\, surgical results\, and even patient survival rates\, the stakes are clear. By building infrastructure that supports women in medicine\, the health of entire communities stands to benefit.
