SUMMARY:Networking 102: The Components of an Effective Network
DESCRIPTION:The Mentorship Committee is hosting a webinar on Networking. This webinar will be Wednesday\, February 20th at 8pm and focus on understanding the structure of a network and how to build it. \n** If you have not used Zoom before\, we strongly recommend that you give yourself at least 5 minutes prior to the call for set-up and troubleshooting so that we can start the talk promptly on time. \nPlease Sign-Up Today \nThis webinar will be hosted by Dr. Chemen Neal. \nDr. Chemen Neal received a BS in biology from San Diego State University. She received her medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She currently works as an assistant professor at the IU School of Medicine in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She serves on the IUSM admissions committee and serves as a mentor in the institutions residency mentoring program aimed at supporting underrepresented minority residents. She also serves as faculty advisor for students in the medical schools advising program and for 4th year students applying to OB/GYN residency programs. Dr. Neal has a special interest in increasing the numbers of women and underrepresented minorities in leadership within academic medicine and helping these physicians find success\, fulfillment\, and balance between work and life. She currently serves on the board of directors for AMWA and co-chairs the mentorship task force. \nIf you have been listening\, then you’ve heard that networking is important and that women are less likely to have strong networks. Has anyone told you the components of a strong professional network? Did you know there are tiers within a network that need to be cultivated? If not\, the next AMWA mentorship webinar may be for you! In Networking 102\, we will move beyond the conversation of why you should have a network to understanding the structure of a network and how to build it. \nBest\,\nAlicia Muratore\nStudent Chair\, Mentorship Committee\, AMWA

SUMMARY:Gender Divide in Healthcare Professions
DESCRIPTION:2nd ANNUAL WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND HEALTHCARE SYMPOSIUM\nFormal and informal separation by gender and how it narrows opportunity and creates barriers to interprofessional collaboration \nHealthcare is one of the fastest growing segments of U.S. employment and also one of the most gender-segregated. Women comprise more than 75 percent of healthcare workers but are under-represented in many specialties and most leadership roles. This hierarchy was founded largely upon gender separation and traditional roles — a legacy that deeply challenges the goals of interprofessional collaboration. This symposium will illuminate the cost of gender segregation to healthcare quality and then turn to positive strategies for strengthening mixed-gender teams and the care they provide. \nREGISTER ONLINE   EVENT FLYER
