SUMMARY:Sex-Based Differences in Research Webinar
DESCRIPTION:FREE WEBINAR presented by CITI Program – Featuring AMWA Leaders \nSex and gender are variables that have been found to impact all health conditions experienced by both women and men. Unfortunately\, clinical research has not consistently assessed and reported results based on sex\, impacting patient care now and in the future. Sex-specific data is needed to provide optimal\, personalized care; without this data\, it is impossible to know if a given intervention is effective and safe for everyone. Data disaggregated and reported by sex is also needed to inform the education of current healthcare professionals across the learning spectrum\, as well as to serve as the basis of future research. \nIn this webinar\, we will differentiate the concepts of sex and gender and consider the impact of these variables on research outcomes and patient care. The presenters will review the National Institutes of Health (NIH) policy on sex as a biological variable (SABV) and how it relates to research and discuss the importance of the inclusion of sex and gender in research proposals. \nRegister for Webinar \nSPEAKERS\n    \nAbout CITI Program\nCITI Program was established in 2000 and is a leading global online education provider. Its web-based training materials serve millions of learners and thousands of subscribing institutions. CITI Program joined the Biomedical Research Alliance of New York (BRANY) in 2016. BRANY was founded in 1998 and is jointly owned by four leading academic medical centers – NYU School of Medicine\, Montefiore Medical Center\, Icahn School of Medicine\, and Northwell Health. SUMMARY:Women Physicians — The Parallels in History
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating the Earliest Women Physicians\nIn recognition of Women’s History Month\, AMWA presents a discussion with author\, Janis Robinson Daly\, who celebrates women physicians from the past whose stories resonate strongly even in the present.\nThis letter\, written by 17-year-old\, Anandibai Gopal Joshi in Kolkata\, India\, in 1883\, prompted the author’s journey to give voice to some remarkable women physicians in her debut historical novel—The Unlocked Path\, which touches on sexism & self-doubt in a young woman who pursued an unorthodox career in medicine. \n\nThe determination which has brought me to your country against the combined opposition of my friends and caste ought to go a long way towards helping me to carry out the purpose for which I came\, i.e.\, is to render to my poor suffering countrywomen the true medical aid they so sadly stand in need of and which they would rather die than accept at the hands of a male physician. The voice of humanity is with me\, and I must not fail. My soul is moved to help the many who cannot help themselves. \n\nACCESS RECORDING \nThis recording is now only available on the AMWA Learning Hub for Members-Only Access. Join AMWA to gain access to the Learning Hub. \nInstructions to Access the Video On the Learning Hub: \n\nGo to the Learning Hub\nSign in with your AMWA Member Portal Credentials\nGo to your training-level hub (i.e. Physician Hub\, Resident Hub\, or Student Hub)\nClick “View”\nGo to “Women Physicians- The Parallels in History”\nSelect “View” to watch the video\n\n\n\n  \nAbout the Author:  Inspired by a love of social history\, Janis Robinson Daly traced the lives of her grandparents’ lives\, especially her paternal grandmother who lived from 1879 to 1957. Thinking of the global events she witnessed as a young woman: the dawn of a new century\, a World War\, the Titanic and Lusitania sinkings\, an influenza pandemic\, and ratification of the 19th Amendment. From these events\, Janis formed the initial storyline for Eliza. With a desire to learn more about Elizabeth Peirce Elliott Robinson\, who died before the author’s birth\, she knew that her grandfather was Judge Peirce in Philadelphia and the family hailed from the city’s social circles.  Many more details about their lives went unexplained and so having no answers\, she created them instead \n\n  \n  \n  \nPhoto Credit: Jessie Casey

SUMMARY:IMG Book Club and Discussion: Unlocking Your Authentic Self
DESCRIPTION:Join the IMG book club for a discussion of “Unlocking Your Authentic Self: Overcoming Impostor Syndrome\, Enhancing Self-Confidence\, and Banishing Self-Doubt” by Jennifer Hunt\, MD. \nREGISTER \n \nUnlocking Your Authentic Self\n  \nDescription from Dr. Jennifer Hunt: \nThis book is an invitation to step into your powerful self and create the future you might have dreamed of as a little girl. Once you begin to notice and control that negative inner-critic voice\, you’ll be surprised at how the world opens up before you. But\, this book is also a challenge.  I am challenging you to walk out in front and serve as a role model\, sponsor\, and mentor to other women who are coming up behind you. As you begin to assimilate the skills and tools in this book into your everyday life\, I hope you will become comfortably uncomfortable with a newfound feeling of responsibility to lean into leadership. Ultimately\, my dream is that this book helps women to blaze the trail toward eliminating the gender leadership gap in healthcare\, and in every other profession. \nIf you are wondering if this is even possible\, don’t take my word for it. Read the reviews and testimonials of other women who have read the book\, practiced the skills\, and now find themselves doing things they had never dreamed of before. I can’t tell you how many times I hear the words\, “I would have never done this before\, and now I can\, and I do!”\nIn parting\, my wishes for you are that\, through this book\, you will develop a clarity of vision about your own amazing skills and talents\, that you can embrace your own personal empowerment\, and that you will take a well-earned seat at the leadership table and serve as a role model\, mentor\, and sponsor to all the women who are watching and learning from you. \n

SUMMARY:Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: The Diagnosis You Don’t Want to Miss
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Anjali Vaidya MD\, FACC\, FASE\, FACP \n\nPractice Point CME Presents:\nPulmonary Arterial Hypertension:\nThe Diagnosis You Don’t Want to Miss\nREGISTER\nTuesday 14th November at 8pm ET\nwith Dr. Anjali Vaidya MD\, FACC\, FASE\, FACP\nPAH is characterized by increased pulmonary vascular resistance due to remodeling and occlusion of the pulmonary arterioles\, resulting in right heart failure and death within 2-3 years of diagnosis if untreated. Despite advances in the diagnosis and treatment of PAH over the last two decades\, the prognosis is still poor. Early recognition of disease\, institution of effective PAH disease-specific therapy optimized for disease severity\, and comprehensive care in specialized centers hold the promise of improving the outcome of patients. PAH is often misdiagnosed or unrecognized in clinical practice and delaying treatment options can worsen outcomes and survival. Diagnostic tests are needed to be done on anyone with unexplained dyspnea and suspected PAH. This lecture is designed for primary care providers and other non-specialists\, using case-based\, interactive discussion on tools to improve diagnosis of PAH and the importance of early referral. \n Upon registration\, the attendees will receive the login details\, and the post lecture evaluation will be emailed at the conclusion of the webcast.  Attendees will receive AMA/ANCC/ACPE credit with completion of the evaluation. \n
