Dr. Beth Garner began her presidency in March of 2023 with a vision for AMWA’s role in advancing the health of women. And what a year it has been. Within the community of women’s health advocates, our voice has had a unique perspective as both women and healthcare practitioners. This dual perspective has been a guiding light in all of our work in AMWA, particularly our ongoing advocacy in women’s health and sex and gender specific healthcare. Dr. Garner spoke at a number of key events over the past year:

  • Innovation Equity Forum, a collaboration between the Gates Foundation and the NIH. Dr. Garner co-lead the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Subcommittee whose work helped lead to the publication of the opportunity map.
  • Reproductive Health Innovation Summit to speak on the topic of innovation and investing.
  • 10th Annual Advancing Women’s Leadership in Pharma & Healthcare Conference. In her keynote: Women at the Highest Levels – Why Aren’t We There Yet? Dr. Garner highlighted the need for more women in senior leadership levels who would be empowered to address pay equity, workplace culture, and women’s health.
  • NIH workshop on Innovative Approaches to Improve Maternal Health. Dr. Garner spoke on Navigating the Regulatory Path for Maternal Health Solutions.
  • Roundtable hosted by Women’s Health Access Matters (WHAM) during the launch of the 3 Not 30 Campaign.
  • TechTour Growth Health 2023 on FemTech: Does It Make Healthcare More Inclusive?
  • Women’s Health Innovation Summit (Sept. 2023) on Building a New Framework Specifically for Women: Promoting Health Equity through a Holistic System
  • Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference on “MOMMAs in Action: Addressing the Maternal Mortality Crisis”
  • 2023 New Jersey Women Business Leaders Forum on Women at the Highest Levels-Why Aren’t We There Yet. Dr. Garner spoke of the need for more women in decision-making positions to address pay equity, workplace culture and women’s health.
