The 7th annual HPV Prevention Week concluded last month, leaving a lasting impact on the global fight against HPV-related cancers. Hosted by the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) and the Global Initiative Against HPV and Cervical Cancer (GIAHC), the event brought together experts, advocates, and community leaders to discuss the latest advancements in HPV prevention, screening, and treatment.
This year’s theme, “Turn Up the HEAT on HPV – Health, Equity, Advancement, and Technology,” emphasized cutting-edge innovations, health equity, and the power of technology in eliminating cervical cancer. Each day featured engaging discussions, live Q&A sessions, and a special documentary screening, providing valuable insights and action-oriented strategies.
Key topics included:
✅ Advancing cultural competence in HPV education to improve access and equity.
✅ Breakthroughs in AI and self-screening for earlier HPV detection.
✅ Global efforts to eliminate cervical cancer, highlighting major initiatives and policy advancements.
✅ Innovations in treating HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer, addressing both clinical and patient perspectives.
✅ Empowering youth voices to drive advocacy and awareness in their communities.
With growing momentum in HPV prevention, the event reinforced that eliminating cervical cancer is possible with collective action. The conversations and initiatives launched this week will continue to drive progress, ensuring more people have access to life-saving vaccines, screenings, and treatments.
