AMWA’s efforts are centered on improving the health of women, ensuring gender equality in healthcare, advocating for comprehensive reproductive and maternal health, and closing gaps in health research funding. These advocacy days are a chance for us to communicate directly with legislators and address pressing issues that impact women’s lives across the nation.
The Dobbs decision’s impact extends beyond reproductive rights, leading to wider disparities in healthcare access. Many women, particularly in rural and underserved areas, face higher maternal mortality rates due to limited access to comprehensive maternal healthcare. Additionally, the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act remains critical to increasing access to obesity treatments, as it seeks Medicare coverage for treatments and therapies vital to managing obesity, a significant public health issue affecting millions of Americans.
Funding for women’s health research is also a top priority. Research disparities mean that conditions predominantly affecting women—like autoimmune disorders, certain cancers, and heart disease—are often underfunded and understudied, leaving treatment options limited and healthcare inequitable. AMWA is calling on Congress to increase funding for these essential research areas, recognizing that closing the gender gap in healthcare research is essential to achieving equality.
AMWA’s virtual sessions are open to everyone committed to making a difference. Participants will have the chance to connect with other advocates, amplify a unified message, and urge Congress to make gender equity in healthcare a priority by advancing the Equal Rights Amendment. Join us to advocate for a better future for the health of women.
The program will include access to a virtual, on-demand advocacy training, live Q&A sessions, talking points, and scheduling appointments with your representative. Most importantly, these trainings will also equip you with tools to have conversations with anyone on policy issues. AMWA members, sign up here!
