This summer, American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) President Dr. Paulette Cazares launched a campaign to invite members, friends, and supporters to invest in the future of women in medicine and the health of women through her Presidential Fundraising Campaign.

In her inspiring inaugural address, Dr. Cazares reflected on the moment that first drew her to AMWA more than two decades ago. As a medical student attending her first AMWA meeting twenty-four years ago, she remembered walking into a room filled with hundreds of women physicians and experiencing something she had never felt before—a profound sense of belonging, encouragement, and possibility.

That experience shaped the course of her leadership journey.

Looking back, Dr. Cazares shared that she remained involved with AMWA because it offered “an unmatched experience from any place” she had ever been. “There’s a herd here,” she said. “And we can be a stammering herd, and we can do things.”

Those words capture the spirit of AMWA—a community where physicians, trainees, and allies come together to support one another, develop as leaders, advocate for change, and improve the health of women.

As she begins her presidential year, Dr. Cazares is building on that legacy by launching an ambitious $25,000 fundraising campaign to strengthen AMWA’s mission and expand its impact. Gifts to the campaign will help support leadership development, advocacy initiatives, educational programming, mentorship, and efforts to advance sex- and gender-informed healthcare while empowering the next generation of women physicians.

Reflecting on the opportunity to serve as AMWA’s President, Dr. Cazares shared, “I am honored to stand on the shoulders of giants—past AMWA presidents, leaders, volunteers, and members—to continue this critical work.”

She also reaffirmed her commitment to advancing AMWA’s mission. “Women’s health is a key aspect of population health, and I enthusiastically support AMWA’s mission and vision.”

With your support, AMWA will continue to harness the strength of this extraordinary community—lifting one another, leading with purpose, and creating lasting change for women in medicine and the health of women everywhere.

Please join us in supporting Dr. Paulette Cazares’ Presidential Fundraising Campaign. Together, we can ensure that future generations of physicians experience the same encouragement, mentorship, and inspiration that first welcomed a young medical student into the AMWA community twenty-four years ago.
