AMWA was represented by past president Dr. Constance Battle and Dr. Nasim Shajihan at a White House event on August 13 celebrating the 2nd Anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The event highlighted the benefits of the IRA’s insulin cap and featured remarks from Senior Administration Officials, including Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, Administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), as well as practitioners and patients. Patients, in particular, shared moving stories about the life-changing impact of no longer paying $1000 for insulin – and now only paying $35.
“Representing AMWA on occasion marking the second anniversary of the inflation reduction act, it was inspiring to hear stories of how the insulin cap has been impactful in transforming lives of Americans with Medicare. Communication from the Vice President’s office to take this effort forward to improve lives of all Americans with diabetes and to contain prices of medication instills hope to continue our advocacy of changing the status quo and achieving effective and equitable healthcare.” – Dr. Nasim Shajihan
“I was edified, educated, and touched by the presentation today celebrating the anniversary of the signing of the Inflation Reduction Act, particularly the insulin stories of each patient. Great courage, great effort to control their illnesses and control their ability to pay for these medications…I appreciate the effort of the Administration and Vice President…as they continue to work toward making medications available to patients in United States in the same way that they are available to patients in other places around the world” – Dr. Constance Battle
