AMWA Leaders Dr. Eileen Barrett (President-elect) and Dr. Eliza Chin (Executive Director) were honored to attend an event at the Vice-President’s residence One Observatory Circle (original built for the U.S. Naval Observatory). This year marks the 5oth Anniversary that the house has been the residence of the Vice-President, beginning in 1974.
At the event, visitors were allowed a self-guided tour of the home which reflected holiday commemorations as well as those celebrating the Vice President’s work and advocacy. In addressing the group, both Vice President Harris and 2nd Gentleman Emhoff expressed their deep thanks to the attendees for their years of service and advocacy for the country. Vice President Harris spoke of the importance of continuing to work together to together to advance progress, justice, and equality.
Dr. Eileen Barrett share her thoughts on the event, “I continue to be inspired by the way AMWA has cultivated lasting relationships with public officials who are promoting the health of women. It was honor tonight to attend a holiday reception at the official residence of Vice President Kamala Harris and the Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff alongside Dr Eliza Chin, and to thank the Vice President for her commitment to protecting the health of women. An unexpected delight was having unplanned conversations with Senators Cantwell (Washington) about our shared commitment to public health, and with Senator Heinrich (New Mexico) about our shared commitment to reproductive health care…It was also wonderful to thank in person Gabriela Cristobal, Deputy Director, Public Engagement & Intergovernmental Affairs in the Office of the Vice President, who has been a generous collaborator and advocate for AMWA’s voice being heard on women’s health, reproductive health, gun violence prevention, and more.”
