Medical Student Division

Application Cycle: July 1st – September 1st

We want to be a part of minimizing health disparities and increasing diversity in medicine by supporting your medical education. AMWA will be awarding 2 (two) $1,000 scholarships to underrepresented students in medicine.

AMWA is dedicated to increasing the participation and fostering the leadership of women and minorities within the organization and in the broader medical community. Consistent with our founding principles, we recognize that our newly trained physicians and patients that we serve are from increasingly diverse ethnic backgrounds and communities. We actively promote a diverse culture through chapters and programs to a diverse group of pre-medical, allied health, and STE(A)MM students, medical students, residents and are committed to mentoring, training, professional development, community, and public service programs.

The AAMC defines “underrepresented in medicine” as: “racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population.” Previously, the AAMC used the term “underrepresented minority,” which referred to Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native American (American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian), Pacific Islander and mainland Puerto Rican populations.
