SUMMARY:1001 Cuts\, A Documentary Film Screening and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Bias in medicine is usually invisible\, at least until you hear stories from those who live it every day. AMWA invites you to join us to view this 20-minute documentary film\, 1001 Cuts\, as a way to draw attention to equity in healthcare\, and participate in a discussion about its impact and how we can come together to change the culture of medicine.\n \nREGISTER\n \nThis documentary sheds light on the challenges that persist for women physicians in the world of surgery. Through candid interviews\, 1001 Cuts amplifies the voices of women physicians from diverse specialties and backgrounds. It not only exposes the pervasive inequities in surgical practice but also presents solutions—offering hope and inspiration to the next generation of women in medicine.\n \n“1001 Cuts is a call-to-action to build workplace cultures within medicine where talent\, hard work\, and leadership are recognized\, says Dr. Sarah Temkin\, who created and produced the film. The film is also an educational tool aimed at improving the culture for women in medicine and in other sectors.\n \nWith women physicians demonstrating strong evidence-based outcomes in communication\, preventive care\, surgical results\, and even patient survival rates\, the stakes are clear. By building an infrastructure that supports women in medicine\, the health of entire communities stands to benefit.\nPost-Screening Discussion\nAbout the Filmmaker: Sarah Temkin\, MD\, is a first-time filmmaker. She was trained as a gynecologic oncologist and spent over 2 decades providing surgical and medical care for women with cancer of the female genital tract. She is widely published in the medical literature and has contributed throughout her career to conversations about equity in healthcare\, including gender equity within the physician workforce. She was inspired to make this film\, informed by her lived experience\, after leaving clinical practice in 2020.\n \nModerator \nAshwini Nadkarni\, MD\, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School\, and  Associate Medical Director at Brigham Psychiatric Specialties\n\n \n
